empathizing with Money as a banished spirit

Hello everyone,

You’ve all heard of Sympathy for the Devil (a shadow integration principle I whole-heartedly believe in) —

— What about Empathy for the Money Spirit? ;) Dave has plenty to say about it below.

But first, real quick – I’ve been getting a lot of inquiries about scholarships for the MONEY course. Alas, due to a number of issues with it over the years, I don’t offer scholarships for my courses anymore…

… but Dave & I are doing an awesome free, live online event on Monday, November 18th at 4 pm Eastern called CASH, where we’ll be teaching how to get started developing a rewarding reciprocal relationship with the spirit of Money, even if you don’t decide to take our course.

I do these kind of free live public teaching events a few times a year, and many people tell me that they receive life-changing insights from these events alone.

So I do hope you do join us live for the event (because it’s extra fun that way) but if the time doesn’t work for you, don’t worry – a replay will be sent out to all who register.

And now, here’s a message from Dave about empathizing with money as a banished spirit:

Money is a uniquely fucked up spirit.

There are different ways to articulate her unique flavor of gnarliness, but perhaps the most useful mythic explanation is this:

Money is the one spirit that has been truly banished from the spirit realm.

Now, by this I do not mean that we petty humans have allowed our distaste for money to obscure its inherent spirituality.

I actually mean the exact opposite: our distaste for money is an expression of our entirely accurate intuition that money is fundamentally an outsider even among its own kind.

Later I’ll dive more into why the spirit was banished, how we know, and what exactly that means.

But for now, it’s important to note that as humans, we have a natural, partial resonance with this aspect of outsiderness and banishment…

Because although we have not been banished from the spirit realm, strictly speaking… our existence in this world is characterized by a deep, underlying longing for a beautiful and long-lost homeland.

If you’ve ever felt as if the language of the practical, material world is not your native tongue, you’ve experienced a form of this longing.

(Interestingly, one of the most common causes for witchy souls feeling this sense of outsiderness on this plane of incarnation is having to deal with financial matters.)

But imagine if you didn’t simply live with a quiet, subtle yearning for another realm… but rather, you remembered every divine detail of that realm constantly, and felt its profound contrast with this one, acutely and wholeheartedly—and knew that the denizens of that realm had deliberately chosen to exclude you from it for the rest of time.

This is something like how the spirit of Money feels, all of the time.

Now, that doesn’t mean that Money is a gloomy, woeful being. We know that it can secretly feel quite nice to long for a homeland. Nostalgia is one of the most beautiful flavors of experience that exists.

But it does mean that the more we learn to fully access, accept, and savor our own experience of longing for a long-lost homeland…

The more fundamentally empathic a relationship we can begin to develop with Money. And any powerful relationship is built first and foremost on a foundation of deeply heartfelt empathy.

In other words: the more we can come to terms with our own painful incarnation on this planet, the better our relationship with Money will become…

And, the better our relationship with Money, the more skillfully we can incarnate on this planet.

Tomorrow I’ll share more about how Money came to be banished from its home dimension…

And your first concrete practice to harness this aspect of Money’s essence for your own inner alchemy and profit.

Hi there, Carolyn again—I know I can hardly wait to hear the story of Money’s banishment again.  There’s nothing I love more than a brilliant, pragmatic mythological reframing that opens up new horizons of magic—how about you?

Tune in tomorrow to get it :)

love and villainy,

Carolyn

P.S. Of course I wasn’t about to leave you without handy links to the Rolling Stones jam Sympathy for the Devil, or for my favorite sad, banished money anthem Why Don’t You Do Right? by Peggy Lee – and of course the even creepier sadder goth version Why Don’t You Do Right? by Rasputina.

P.P.S. This Wednesday, November 13th, Dave and I will be opening registration for our new course, MONEY.

MONEY is a course all about – you guessed it – money magic. The kind that will flip your world inside-out in the best possible way.

MONEY will include 7 in-depth text and audio Lessons, live webinar community meetings where you can talk directly to me & Dave, and will run from December to March.

The time investment for the course will be about 30 minutes every two weeks to read / listen to the Lesson, along with daily and weekly practice assignments.

The price of the course is 5 payments of $199 — less than the cost of a weekend vacation, and an investment that can revolutionize your experience of money forever.
