WHY YOKO ONO IS A BETTER WITCH THAN STEVIE NICKS

by Merhamet Miller

I am as guilty as the rest of the witchy world for loving Stevie Nicks’ costumes, her crooning lyrics about the Goddess Rhiannon, and seeing her twirl with a shawl.

Just like everyone else that watched American Horror Story Coven I found myself poised in anticipation when she came on the screen for a few minutes; because she is the Pop Culture cover girl for what we have been told “witchy women” look like.

Yet, Stevie Nicks herself has clearly said “I am not a witch, I just like Halloween, and I thought Blondes looked skinnier in black”.

That got me over her. That was all it took, because Bad Witches don’t keep on liking people that don’t like them, it is unhealthy. What is it about us rejected witches that try to cling to a “pop icon” that clearly does not want to be one of us?

Were we rejected so much in high school as the weird dark geeky girl, that even in our musical selections we have to run out and try to make the blonde Barbie our hero even if…she doesn’t want to be part of our coven?

Not me, not anymore, I have been there and done that and it doesn’t turn out good.

On the other side of the coin we have this woman, Yoko Ono. Who yells from the roof tops…
“Yes, I’m a witch, I’m a bitch
I don’t care what you say
My voice is real, my voice is truth
I don’t fit in your ways”
(from the Album I’m a Witch)

What is it about Yoko Ono that we witches reject? Is it that she is not white? Is it that she is the creepy little girl that wears all blacks and looks up at us with accusing playful eyes full of confidence?

She should know she is not classically attractive, right? Is it that she refuses to lacquer and play the female sexuality game in the typical way?

Is it that she is just too rich and powerful like the Goddesses we worship? Why is it we have not embraced her yet?

Yoko has always worn black; it is her signature if she is not wearing white which contrasted with her hair it makes a striking visual image. She has never denied her astrology obsessions, or tarot obsessions, or that her personal staff included personal numerologists/mystics/psychics.

She uses a screeching cackling voice on her records that tell us clearly who and what she is; and yet we magical beings do not embrace her and hold her up as a poster child for what we could be; but ignore her altogether.

Does she just make us all feel inadequate in comparison? I want to figure out what she is doing, and do that. Obviously her magick is working.

Yoko Ono is a bad ass Necromancer and Sorceress.

Every year, to celebrate John Lennon’s death, she gathers people in Central Park, and they light candles to John and sing songs to him and this year she gathered over 2000 for the largest circle gathered in the record books.

What does she have them gather for and sing, and chant and light candles to John for? Peace.

In the terms of magical workings, she is having strangers send energy to John and asking him to assist this planet so that it can achieve Peace. Yet, everyone in the media and on social sites acts as if this is some publicity campaign.

This is slick Necromancy at its finest. No Public Witchy Circle I have ever heard of can draw 2000 people, but Yoko can and she does!

She erected a Peace tower as a tribute to John, on what would have been his 70th birthday, in Iceland.

This Peace tower works 24/7 and beams up a light into the sky 700ft that coincides with the Northern lights. It is constructed using her design like a wishing well and has over 24 different languages on a clear glass lid that says…Imagine Peace.

She is asking the world to imagine an existence because of the magical principle of manifestation. If you can get enough people to agree to something and to want it…it will occur; this is one of the oldest laws of witchy craft. You are sly, Ms. Ono!

Every year, from all over the world people send Yoko thousands of “wishes” and she places them in a receptacle within her Peace tower that she had specifically made for the purpose of holding magical items.

She places the wishes of random strangers into this well, has a ceremony where she prays, sings and then SENDS off their wishes out into the universe like a HUGE public ritual where a cone of power is raised for magick to manifest, on goes the light into the skys beyond our atmosphere.

Yoko has a cause, she wants Peace on this planet manifested and she is consciously and constantly doing magick for it.

She fights openly for environmental causes and brings media attention to them and pours thousands and thousands of dollars into them; gun control, feminism and her latest project for the five years has been “fracking”.

She coordinated hundreds of public icons to donate to the project and make a commercial that was viral to make the public aware of what fracking is and to stop it. Her song to raise money on an album for it was “Stop fracking my mother” and this in and of itself is pure Yoko.

She uses a clever dry sense of humor playing on the word “fuck” to make us realize…we are fucking our planet over; and we need to stop! Yoko is a witch who cares about the planet and is willing to fight for it. The public response to this was the following…

Yep, once again that same old song and dance…she broke up the Beatles.

Dude, to be honest I did not listen to the Beatles they were way before my time. However, I see mansplaining and the condescending attitude of the White Male capitalists when it comes to Yoko Ono I get it she is a woman calling you out.

In 2010 Yoko had a huge exhibit at NYC and all of it was about fracking, and that was her response to the billboard not a word in the press…just pushing back.

Yoko is a Bad Witch. Bad Witches give “zero fucks” what others think. Bad Witches have survived great persecution and loss of someone or something they love, and went on to claim their power and embrace their personal wealth.

Yoko has done all of those things. At the age of 82 she shows no signs of slowing down, this year alone she had a highly celebrated Momo Show at NYC where they are finally acknowledging her contribution to the Modern Art movement, released a new album (I am a Witch II), was named one of the 100 most influential people in Time Magazine (sorry Stevie you did not make the cut), went on tour with the Plastic Ono Band, and released two new books!

Did I mention that her style has now become one emulated not overlooked ?

You can want Stevie Nicks to be a witch and read meaning that is not there for the rest of your life while you hum her songs and twirl in front of your mirror dreaming.

But I am over worshipping blonde women with big doe eyes and trendy boho/chic clothing, I have moved on…

I want more Pop Icons like Yoko Ono in my life; that teach me to hustle and flow, that yell and moan making people uncomfortable, that wear all black, don hats at rakish angles and do magick publicly for all the world to see and scream from the public speakers…”I am a witch!”

Yeah, I am too Yoko, I am too.
