This Week in Witchcraft (8.29.2015)

Ready for a quick tour of magical highlights from the physical and digital worlds this week?

Boing Boing reported on an 8-foot tall bronze statue of Baphomet unveiled in public by the Satanic Temple of Detroit. In your face, American pseudo-theocracy!

Meanwhile, The Atlantic reports on an anti-witchcraft unit in Saudi Arabia prosecuting people for magic, fortune-telling and practicing tribal rituals. Sounds like it’s working out like that sort of thing usually does, to the detriment of poor and marginalized women. (Maybe women registering to vote for the first time will put a stop to this soon.)

Back in the US, Austrostraddle has a new monthly witchcraft column. Soon we’ll be everywhere you want to be!

Elsewhere on the web, very bad witch Sarah Anne Lawless published an artful and in-depth essay on using animal bodies in magic. It definitely looks like a good and well-researched resource if you’re into that sort of thing.

Fans of human and animal skulls – and the witch in your life who has everything – may also enjoy the miniature pearl carvings of Japanese artist Shinji Nakaba, featured on Colossal.
