What does it mean to be a Priestess of Morgan le Fay?

    by Demelza Fox

My name is Demelza Fox, and I am a Priestess of Morgan le Fay.

So, how did that come about? What does that mean?

I’d been guided by Morgana for ten years before she chose to initiate me as Her Priestess.

After an impassioned (but very naive) appeal to Her to be my patron goddess at the tender age of 17, I spent a decade being tested, guided, and generally dragged about by Morgan le Fay as She taught me about spirituality, speaking my truth, and how to express myself in the world.

After a brief while trying to be a “regular” grown up, I followed my dreams as a Dancer and Performer to become Self Employed, and spent my early 20’s dealing with dicy finances and struggling to see worth in my work and in myself.

I summoned my courage and applied for a Priestess Training program in Glastonbury, something I thought was so far beyond anything I would be brave enough to do.

I stepped up and began to take this calling seriously…

… and then when the time was right, I spoke my Truth and left the priestess training program, falling into deep sadness and a nervous breakdown as I was forced to confront my destructive workaholism, my lack of self care, and the grief of a dream broken.

With Morgana’s help, I rebuilt and remade myself from the ashes.

She has been my guide, my High Priestess, crafting my life in Her Service and training me in what I truly needed to become Her Priestess.

A few years ago on a mild Samhain night, after a day of walking the land, leaving offerings at graveyards and sinking into the delicious deep energy of Halloween, Morgana initiated me as Her priestess in a powerful vision, leaving me in no doubt of Her Will for me.

Since then, She loudly tells me what to do, and I try to summon my courage to get it done.

I mean, it’s not before I was initiated She was the mistress of subtlety, but now there is an edge to it.

A sense of being caught in Her flow, that tension where control freak little me is still learning to let go, trust and surrender fully into what She wants for me.

I have a strong sense of destiny and a powerful sense of being divinely guided

… but also a strange shapelessness of how any of it will come to pass.

I mean, I guess what else can you expect when your Goddess is a shapeshifter who lurks in the mists most of the time? Surprises!

As Morgana’s Priestess, I have a responsibility to step up and be visible for Her.

The process of becoming a priestess is really an unfurling and a blossoming of your deepest truth, revealing to the world what you are deep down, and being bold enough to claim it.

Looking back and really seeing that my whole life, all the work I have ever done, every part of who I am and what I have learned and studied in this lifetime has been training to step into this role of Priestess.

My theatre training, my dance education, my academic studies of beauty, my passion for writing, my priestess studies and my marketing studies, even my intense mix of Aries, Scorpio and Capricorn. It’s there to do this.

Whenever I talk to sister women who are also on Morgana’s Pathway to Priestesshood, we all look back and see how She has lead us to this point.

How She has carefully crafted our lives so that when we finally meet Her and take up Her call, we can be in deepest service to Her.

Of course, I am human, so I am not perfect. I slip up. I ignore Her direction, only to play catch up later. I try my hardest, yet sometimes I am afraid to take the actions She shows me.

Being Her Priestess means surrendering to Her guidance and will for me, and being of service to my community in the weird special way that only I have – because to be a Priestess means to Serve.

Who and how you serve is individual to each person.

I am adamant that there are a thousand ways to Priestess – not everyone has to be a high fancy ritualist – but with Morgana, there are specific ways.

She is a goddess of Sisterhood, so Her ministry will always involve working with other women and bringing them together.

She is a goddess of Magic, so you will need to dust off your spell book and start claiming that dormant witchy power of yours.

She is a goddess of Truth, so whatever is your deepest love and passion, whatever is at the core of you, THAT is what you will be called on to serve with.

Me? I love writing, teaching, and dancing. I’m also good at it. So that’s my jam. That’s my skill set. Morgana works with that.

Other folks have an affinity with plants, and serve through their herbalist practice.

Others are tarot ninjas, and help people that way.

Some have really hot organisation skills, and do the admin for large goddess events, or do the books for a charity. So. Many. Ways.

Morgana is not interested in your bullshit – she wants your white hot, raw and naked truth, no matter how scary it is, and to serve Her, you are going to have to step up into that truth and lead from there.

Because She needs a sisterhood of Queens to help her bring Avalon to our world again.

She needs a council of women who are grounded and powerful and will stand up for what is real in the world, who have the strength to seed what Morgana needs and bring her greatness to the world.

So really, it’s a big ask.

To follow the twilight goddess deep into the mists of Avalon and trust that She knows the way.

She has called me here to do Her Work: and in this life, She wants me to stand up, be counted as Hers, and teach others to do the same.

That’s what it means to me to be a Priestess of Morgan le Fay.
