You may have heard of Spirit Animals. The creatures whose beauty and gifts hold special messages for you.
Whose qualities you need to remember within yourself at times on your path.
We all need these reminders of our full spectrum of power and capabilities as beings of light.
We also need to understand our Spirit Animals so as to maintain our connection to the world of nature and not lose Her wisdom.
We need the reminder that the Spirit Animals are as much a part of ourselves as we are of them and of all of creation.
Especially as our modern world consistently rips us away from our roots.
As in working with any spiritual guide or aspect of nature, Spirit Animals must be approached with respect.
If we truly want to connect with the energies of nature we must be prepared to take responsibility for our part of this relationship.
Picture your Spirit Animal in all his or her grace and beauty. Sense his or her power.
Close your eyes.
Take a deep breath.
And receive this important message from your Spirit Animal.
“We and our counterparts in the physical realm, are not yours to enslave.
We are not yours to destroy for the sake of satisfying your tastes, your lust for sport, your desire for status, or your insatiable greed.
Our bodies are not yours to dissect.
Our eggs are not yours to steal and eat.
Our babies are not yours to steal and eat.
Our milk is not yours to steal.
Our feet are not your token of good luck. Our feathers are not a commodity for you to market.
Our skin is not yours to wear or beat for music.
Our eyes are not yours to drop poison into while you confine our bodies in your labs.
Our fur is not your coat.
Our intestines are not designed for your barbecue picnic.
We are not here to entertain you.
We do not exist to create your commercial success.
We do not exist to be exposed to poisons in order to feed your curiosity.
We do not exist to be your last socially acceptable vestige of colonization for labor or food or clothing.
You do not own us.
Your colonization of us is destroying the world and yourselves.
Stop killing us.”
This is the universal message of all who have been enslaved, colonized and commodified. All who have been tortured and killed.
All animals, human and nonhuman who understand their life has purpose and integrity must not be defined by a potential profit margin or by their usefulness within the food chain of capitalism.
It is the message that any one of us held captive and deprived of our basic rights to survive and pursue our own nature would speak to our colonizers.
